IDEXX Laboratories, Inc , - is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Instrument Development Organization in Westbrook, ME. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative engineer to join an innovative product development team bringing technological advanced diagnostic testing to the veterinarian's office.
JOB DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of mechanical engineering activities related to development of new products.
Assists in design and development of diagnostic instruments from inception through transition to production in a team environment.
Evaluates mechanical designs and identifies potential risk areas.
Assists other engineers with material selection, design tradeoffs, thermal/mechanical analyses and tolerance studies.
Completes documentation of designs conforming to IDEXX documentation standards including detail and assembly drawings in Solidworks; bills of material; design review presentations; lab and analysis reports; manufacturing assembly drawings and work instructions.
Participates in brainstorming sessions to create new products and technologies.
## Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from a recognized university or equivalent engineering education.
Demonstrated knowledge of first principles governing physical systems, for example Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) preferred.

Experience:
1 year of relevant experience, entry level candidates will be considered provided relevant intern, cooperative education (COOP), project experience is shown.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Strong analytical and problem solving skills coupled with practical hands on ability
Demonstrated creative design ability
Ability to work in a team-oriented collaborative environment
Ability to understand interactions of mechanical parts and determine solutions to debug problems
Solidworks 3D CAD experience required
Experience with design for assembly and design for manufacturability tools (DFMA), a plus
Analytical and computational skills in structural analysis, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and tolerance studies using ANSYS a plus
Exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing practices per ASME Y14.5 a plus
Experience designing highly integrated medical devices including fluidic and precision measurement systems a plus
Experience with motion control systems, electro mechanical assemblies and electronics packaging a plus
Experience designing for some or all of the following processes: injection molding, thermoforming, sheet metal fabrication, welding, brazing, casting, painting, plating
Understanding of machining processes and methods
Polished presentation and communications skills
