Under direct supervision, the Claims Assistant provides claims-related support to claims team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Adheres to service standards for processing administrative requests
Sends out letters requesting information for claim files
Makes follow up telephone calls such as requesting medical information from physicians and verifying return to work verification
Ensures complete and accurate claim file documentation
Files new policyholder information
Maintains an understanding of the different client relationships and products
Assists with mail sorting and distribution
Coordinates desk coverage when analysts are out, including claim distribution, mail distribution and routing incoming calls
Assists with answering phones
Manages Paramed requests and follows up on billing inquiries directly with vendor
Responsible for claim triage and distribution of claims for multiple clients
Follows up on overpayments, processes and applies payments in admin system
Sends out updated invoices and letters advising of the new/outstanding overpayment and monitors all claims with the collection vendor
Additional Responsibilities
Set up direct deposits for LTD analysts
Schedule 1x1s, meetings, make meeting room reservation and send out meeting notices to attendees
Assists with claims distribution
Assists with posting new claims
Assists with maintaining the Claims Intake Manual, as new procedures are developed and best practices are identified
Assist with department projects as needed
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with a pleasant and professional communication style
Customer service focus
Ability to initiate and prioritize regular work duties and small projects, ability to multitask, be detailed oriented, organized and possess good time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good computer skills; proficient in PC environment, with basic skills in Excel, Word and e-mail systems
Ability to use office equipment including fax machine, photocopier, and printer
Ability to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors and others with whom DRMS does business

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
